Ben built his first fort today! Ok it was more of a cave and I helped a little but he sat inside it and giggled!
I breathed a sigh of relief that he was happy for a moment. It was a pretty "interesting" day that Sunday. The kid has teeth coming in and was a little needy. An example for you: he took a three hour nap. YES! He woke up very groggy and disoriented, though. I stopped folding laundry, ran downstairs to turn the oven off and crack the door open so dinner wouldn't burn, then ran back upstairs to get him. It took me a while to get him calmed down as he went from sleeping quietly to screaming in less than a second and I didn't take the time to pick up the heater from the floor or turn the fan (white noise) off. I picked him up and snuggled him which quieted him down, but as I turned around he saw the heater on the floor, screamed "HOT!" and started crying again. I put him down to take care of the heater so picture a 1 year old standing in the middle of the floor with tears streaming down his face. Breaks your heart until you think of why he's crying, then you have to try not to laugh.
So I'm walking the house with him to try and calm him down. He's resting on my shoulder all snuggled in when he sees the oven door open AND FREAKS! He's now crying and wailing "H-H-O-T!" I put him down, grab the food and put it on the stove and close the oven door. Meanwhile, he's standing there crying. Again. You'd think we've burned this kid pretty badly sometime in his life as adamant as he is about hot things. Jess says he runs around at play group and yells "HOT!" at all the parents while pointing to their coffee mugs.
Back upstairs we go so I can walk the kid and calm him down again. All I did this time was put him down and go to finish folding laundry, which is now nicely wrinkled, and he starts wailing again. This time, at least, he didn't yell HOT! I guess the laundry can wait...
